About LeafLookup

LeafLookup is a free reference for houseplant owners who want to know which plants are safe around their pets and how to care for them. Our goal is simple: give pet owners fast, reliable answers so they can make safe choices for their home.

Our Data Source

All toxicity data on LeafLookup is sourced from the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center — the leading authority on pet toxicology in the United States, available 24/7 at (888) 426-4435.

We have verified toxicity classifications for all 307 plants in our database against the ASPCA Toxic and Non-Toxic Plants list. This includes toxicity to cats, dogs, and humans where data is available.

Methodology

  • 307houseplants verified against the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center database.
  • 3toxicity fields per plant: toxic to cats, toxic to dogs, toxic to humans.
  • Care data (watering frequency, sunlight, pot size, care level) compiled from horticultural references and cross-checked across sources.
  • Data is reviewed periodically. When ASPCA updates classifications, we update our records accordingly.
